VUmc medical center

Mucosa BV is a spin off company of the VUmc. Prof. Rik Scheper and Dr .S. Gibbs specialize in bench to bedside (translational) research and development of in vitro assays in full compliance with the 3Rs (reduction, refinement and replacement of test animals). Within the Dermatology Department, they have developed mucosa and skin constructs. Both constructs are now regularly being used in the clinical setting after a series of successful pilot studies and for in vitro assay development (novel therapeutics, irritants, allergens). Due to national and international grants, the VUmc is extremely closely involved in all fundamental as well as translational and applied research.

A-Skin specializes in developing and marketing tissue engineered skin constructs for difficult to heal skin wounds e.g.: therapy resistant chronic wounds, deep burns and trauma induced wounds.
